| Obverse description | Facing head of Athena, helmeted, rendered in the Hellenistic style with fine modelling of the facial features. The goddess is depicted full-face, a relatively uncommon and striking composition, wearing a crested Attic helmet pushed back to reveal the forehead and loosely rendered hair falling to either side. The surfaces show an even green patina consistent with ancient bronze coinage of the Ionian region. |
