Obverse description Bare head of Kore Soteira facing right, the hair bound with a wreath of grain ears, rendered in the Hellenistic style with soft modelling. The portrait is set within a plain field bordered by a dotted perlkreis. The grain wreath is a characteristic attribute of the goddess in her role as protectress and saviour, echoing the city's close association with Demeter and her daughter Persephone.
