By the mid-first century BC, many such groups were issuing coinage not primarily for trade but to pay warriors and signal political cohesion under intensifying pressure from both Roman expansion and the Dacian kingdom under Burebista, whose campaigns in the 60s–50s BC disrupted Celtic settlement across the middle Danube region considerably.
