The design is a barbarous imitation of late Roman Republican reverse types, with the symbolic attributes of Jupiter — the thunderbolt — and of maritime or cosmic authority — the globe and rudder — retained in recognisable though stylised form. |

The Eravisci were a Celtic tribe settled in Pannonia, around the region of modern Budapest, whose coinage closely imitated Roman Republican denarii — so closely, in fact, that their issues circulated alongside Roman originals without obvious disruption. This particular type copies the Jupiter denarius series, almost certainly as a deliberate strategy to facilitate trade with Roman merchants and soldiers operating along the Danube frontier.
The imitation is competent but the silver content variable, which is often the diagnostic tell.
