| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a Carolingian royal monogram composed of interlaced letters forming the name KAROLVS, executed in the angular, bold style characteristic of Carolingian denier coinage. The monogram is set within an inner beaded circle, beyond which runs a circular Latin legend. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-hammered early medieval silver coinage, and the die work is robust though somewhat off-center. |
