Bruno III ruled Frisia for less than a decade before drowning in the Elbe in 1057 during a military campaign — a death that ended his line and left the region's political future unresolved for years. His coinage was struck at Dokkum, the same town where the English missionary Boniface had been martyred three centuries earlier, a site that carried genuine ecclesiastical weight and likely reinforced the legitimacy of minting activity there.
