Obverse description Hammered silver denier struck on an irregular flan. The central design features a long cross extending to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a small lozenge or wedge-shaped pellet ornament. The cross is surmounted by a small crosslet finial at its apex. Surrounding the inner beaded circle is the retrograde circular Latin legend reading +STEPHANVS·REX (King Stephen), with individual letters crudely rendered in the hammered style typical of early medieval Hungarian coinage. The entire design is enclosed by an outer beaded border.
