| Obverse description | Crude hammered field displaying the legend IOC D arranged around a central motif resembling a stylized cross or episcopal symbol, enclosed within a roughly rectangular inner border. The lettering is rendered in an archaic, irregular Latin script characteristic of 11th-century ecclesiastical coinage. The design reflects the primitive die-cutting style typical of early medieval German episcopal mints. The cross-like central device may allude to the bishop's authority. A cross precedes the inscription as indicated by the engrailed stop. |
