| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field contains the Shahada inscription in multiple lines of Arabic script within a lobed or scalloped cartouche, characteristic of Ilkhanid hammered gold coinage. The text reads the Islamic profession of faith followed by the mint name Qays (Qais island), arranged in a compressed calligraphic style typical of the period. The surrounding marginal border features additional Arabic legends running around the inner periphery of the coin. The flan is irregular and slightly buckled, consistent with the hand-hammered striking technique used at provincial Ilkhanid mints. The overall design reflects the purely epigraphic style of Mongol-period Islamic gold coinage, devoid of figural imagery. |
