The king holds a long sceptre or patriarchal staff in his left hand and raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction or authority. Flanking the throne are partial Cyrillic inscriptions identifying the ruler, rendered in the bold, compressed lettering typical of late 13th to early 14th century Serbian hammered coinage. |
