| Obverse description | Central cross pattée enclosed within a closed diadem or wreath rendered as an ornamental circular border, the whole surrounded by a dotted border. The Greek royal legend BACIΛEΩC HPΩΔOY (of King Herod) is distributed around the field. The design is characteristic of the Herodian mint's adaptation of Hellenistic motifs to Jewish royal coinage, executed in a bold if somewhat irregular hammered style. |
