背面描述 A stag standing right in the primary field, rendered with elegant naturalism, its forelegs raised in a prancing pose. Behind the stag, a tall palm tree with spreading fronds rises prominently in the left field, its trunk detailed with characteristic scale-like texture. The magistrate's name ΠAYΣANIAΣ is inscribed vertically downward in the right field in Greek characters, identifying the issuing authority. The composition is set within an open field with no border, consistent with Hellenistic Ephesian drachm types.

附加信息

Ephesos issued coinage under its own civic authority during the period following the Peace of Apamea in 188 BC, when Rome stripped the Seleucids of their Anatolian holdings and redistributed the region largely to Pergamon. The city retained meaningful commercial autonomy, and its silver issues circulated widely across Aegean trade networks. The magistrate name Pausanias appearing on this piece is one of several known from the mid-second century civic series, placing administrative identity directly on the coinage in a practice common to Ephesian issues of this period.
