Fals- temp. Abaqa Tiflis Mint

Abaqa Khan, son of Hülegü, ruled the Ilkhanate through a period of sustained pressure on two fronts — ongoing conflict with the Chagatai Khanate to the east and repeated incursions by the Golden Horde from the north. Tiflis, absorbed into the Ilkhanid administrative sphere following the Mongol consolidation of Georgia, continued operating its mint under nominal Georgian supervision while effectively serving Ilkhanid fiscal needs. The A#2137R designation marks this as a relatively rare type within the Tiflis copper series, with Bennett Georgia #301 representing one of the few systematic cataloguing efforts for this chronologically compressed and often poorly documented regional coinage.
