Goznak began serious polymer substrate development in the 2010s, partly in response to Russia's strategic interest in reducing dependence on foreign banknote technology suppliers — notably De La Rue and Giesecke+Devrient, both of which had supplied Russian currency printing equipment and materials. This test note from 2018 was produced at the Moscow facility to evaluate Goznak's domestically developed polymer stock rather than for any planned circulating issue.
