Beschrijving keerzijde A boar standing to the left in high relief, depicted with characteristic bristled back and naturalistic musculature, occupying the central field. Above the boar, a branch or plant motif is visible in the upper field, likely a cereal ear or palm frond, a common symbol on Numidian civic coinage. The Neo-Punic mint signature legend 'MQM>' appears in the field, referencing the city of Macomades. The design is enclosed within a shallow border, and the flan is irregular, consistent with hammered production at a provincial North African mint.

Aanvullende informatie

46 BC is the year Caesar defeated Juba I at Thapsus, ending the Numidian kingdom as an independent state. Macomades, a coastal city in the northeastern corner of Numidia, issued this bronze in what was almost certainly the final phase of autonomous Numidian civic coinage before the region was reorganized as the Roman province of Africa Nova under Sallust's governorship.
