Melekkiatam ruled Kition during a period when the city-kingdom was under sustained Phoenician dynastic control, and the gold coinage issued in his name reflects the mint's deliberate alignment with Phoenician rather than Greek monetary conventions. Hemistaters from this reign are rare by any measure — Kition's gold output was never prolific, and Tziambazis catalogued fewer than a handful of confirmed specimens for this type.
