Reverse description Reverse of this hammered copper manghir displays a bold Arabic inscription arranged in two or three lines across the field, naming the month of Ramadan and the Hijri year 790. The legend is rendered in a fluent early Ottoman hand, with characteristic diacritical pellets flanking the text on the left side of the flan, visible in the image. The irregular flan edge, a hallmark of hammered coinage of this period, frames the deeply struck lettering, which retains good relief despite surface patination and encrustation.
