| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Anastasius I facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial tradition with a pearl diadem visible above the brow. The effigy is executed in low relief on a small flan, characteristic of the nummus denomination, with the portrait occupying the majority of the obverse field. Fragmentary Latin legend partially visible around the periphery, reading D N ANAS, an abbreviated titulature for Dominus Noster Anastasivs. The style reflects the transitional late antique aesthetic of the early Byzantine period, with schematic but recognizable facial features and drapery folds indicated on the shoulder. |
