Sancho VI earned the epithet "el Sabio" — the Wise — partly through his systematic reorganization of Navarrese fiscal and legal infrastructure, including the fueros granted to frontier towns that needed economic incentive to remain populated against Castilian and Aragonese pressure. The tiny billon fractional issues of his reign circulated precisely in those border markets, where small-denomination exchange was a daily reality rather than a convenience.
At 0.28 g, dies were almost impossible to align consistently, and off-center strikes on this type are the rule rather than an aberration.
