Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborately calligraphed Ottoman imperial tughra, rendered in the characteristic interlaced cursive style with upward-projecting shafts (beyze) and looping lower elements (tuğ). The tughra occupies the majority of the flan and is struck in relatively high relief for a hammered billon piece. A dotted border runs along the upper periphery of the coin, framing the central device. The strike is typical of mid-18th century Egyptian mint production, with some flatness at the edges due to the hammered technique.
