Beschrijving voorzijde A six-pointed star (Star of David) occupies the central field, formed by two interlocking triangles, with a central pellet or small annulet at its heart. Five points of the star are visible in the interior composition, with additional points radiating outward toward the coin's periphery. The design is executed in the crude, angular style typical of medieval Danish hammered billon coinage. No legend or inscription is present on this side.

Aanvullende informatie

Erik Menved inherited the Danish throne at age twelve following the murder of his father Erik Klipping on St. Stephen's Day 1286 — a crime blamed on a group of magnates who were subsequently outlawed and spent years raiding Danish territory from exile in Norway. His reign was defined by near-constant warfare financed through increasingly desperate measures, including the pawning of large portions of the Danish crown's lands to German creditors. Ribe, one of Denmark's oldest episcopal mints, continued striking billon pennies through this period of fiscal erosion, its output declining in silver content as the century turned.
