Additional information

Eadred ruled for nine years before dying at roughly thirty, likely from a chronic digestive illness that left him unable to eat solid food for much of his reign. He nonetheless drove the Norse kingdom of York to final submission in 954, ending Scandinavian kingship in England permanently. Coins struck under him are rare relative to those of his longer-reigning predecessors, and the surviving corpus is small enough that new die identifications still occasionally surface in academic literature.
