Obverse description Crudely rendered tuğra of Sultan Mahmud II occupying the central field, surrounded by an ornate floral and foliate wreath border composed of stylized leaves and blossoms extending around the full circumference. The tuğra, the imperial Ottoman calligraphic monogram, is executed in a simplified form typical of replica or low-denomination strikes. The overall design is presented in Arabic script within a decorative vegetal frame.

Additional information

KM#628 is a modern replica, not a period strike — the original Cedid Mahmudiye series was introduced under Mahmud II following the Nizam-ı Cedid reforms and the turbulent accession year of 1808, which itself opened with the assassination of Selim III and closed with the Deed of Alliance forcing Mahmud to share power with the provincial notables. The brass composition alone disqualifies any claim to originality; Ottoman fractional coinage of this type was struck in billon or silver.
