| Obverse description | Seated allegorical figure of the French Republic (Marianne) facing left, enthroned on an armchair, holding a fasces (lictor's bundle) in her right hand; a naval anchor stands to her right and a sheaf of wheat is placed to her left. A cockerel appears behind the figure. The peripheral legend reads REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE, with the date in the exergue and the engraver's signature BARRE below the figure. The composition is rendered in the classicizing neoclassical style characteristic of Barre's work. |
