Opmerkingen

The Oman Currency Board was a transitional institution, established in 1972 to manage the currency of a country that had only recently renamed itself — Oman replaced the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman as the official name in 1970, the same year Sultan Qaboos deposed his father in a palace coup backed by British interests. This note belongs to the first series issued under that new national identity, with the Rial Omani itself replacing the Gulf Rupee and then the transitional Saidi Rial. Bradbury Wilkinson handled the full series, as they did for several Gulf states during this period of post-British withdrawal currency reorganization.

The Currency Board was dissolved in 1974 when the Central Bank of Oman took over, making this a short-lived issuing authority with a narrow window of production.
