| Reverse description | Two-line Persian inscription in Nasta'liq script, divided by a horizontal line across the field, with the AH date 1153 appearing in the lower register. The legend reads: 'The coin gains in Herat the name and sign of Shahrukh,' identifying both the mint city and the issuing prince Shahrukh, grandson of Nader Shah. The numerals of the Hijri date are rendered in abjad-style Eastern Arabic numerals in the lower portion of the field. The flan is irregularly shaped and the strike is characteristic of hand-hammered Afsharid provincial coinage. |
