Obverse description Round bronze flan pierced by a central square hole with raised borders on both sides, evoking the traditional cash-coin format of East Asia. The legend INDO-CHINE FRANÇAISE curves along the upper and lateral periphery in bold incuse Latin capitals, while the mint mark A and date 1896 appear in the lower field flanked by small decorative pointing-hand privy marks. The design is stark and deliberately aniconic, placing full visual emphasis on the square perforation as the central motif. A fine milled border encircles the entire obverse field.
