Obverse description Facing degraded bust rendered in a highly stylised Anglo-Saxon manner, the head depicted frontally with a schematic face and radiating lines suggesting drapery or a collar below. A cross pattée surmounts the crown of the head, and three small crosses or star-like pellet groups are disposed in the left, right, and upper fields, flanking the bust. The design is set within an irregular flan with no beaded border, typical of the hammered sceat series. The overall treatment is characteristic of the debased Insular style of the late 7th to early 8th century.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description A stylised bird or fantastical creature rendered in a highly schematic manner occupies the upper field, depicted in profile with hatched or lined body suggesting feathers or scales. Below the central design, a bold cross pattée is set prominently in the lower field. The entire device is enclosed within a double or single beaded border, a characteristic feature of Series BZ sceats. The reverse design reflects the abstract zoomorphic vocabulary common to Insular metalwork of the period, executed with confidence despite the small flan.
