| Reverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious and honorific inscription, arranged in horizontal registers and affirming the sovereignty of the Ottoman sultan in the established imperial formulaic tradition. The inscription is framed by a plain inner circle, outside which a beaded border traces the coin's irregular hammered flan. The bold, angular calligraphy is characteristic of Ottoman gold coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. The unadorned field between the inner circle and the border is typical of sultani issues struck at Cezayir during this period. |
