Parion's late Hellenistic tetradrachm coinage was struck under Roman provincial oversight following Rome's reorganization of the Mysian region after 133 BC, when the Attalid kingdom was bequeathed to Rome by Attalus III. The magistrate name Polykles appearing on this issue places it within a locally administered series that retained the outward form of independent Greek coinage while functioning within Roman Asia's economic framework. These civic issues from Parion are notably underrepresented in major collections, which accounts for the SNG France and Lewis concordances being among the few reliable reference anchors for die attribution.
