Crane Currency produced this piece as a promotional/demonstration note to showcase the Guardian™ polymer substrate — a product line CCL Secure developed and which Crane acquired capability to print on following its 2018 partnership arrangements. It has no monetary value, no issuing authority, and was never legal tender anywhere. "Crane House Note" refers to its function as a sales tool, distributed to central banks and procurement officials evaluating polymer substrate options.

The Malta facility is one of the few non-Commonwealth printing operations licensed to work with Guardian™. That alone made these demonstration pieces useful as proof-of-production samples for prospective sovereign clients.
