Laurel and Hardy as a subject is an odd fit for a European issuer: Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston, England, and Oliver Hardy in Harlem, Georgia. Neither had meaningful biographical ties to continental Europe, though the duo's films were immensely popular across France and Germany through the 1930s and 1940s.
