EuroSouvenir notes occupy an odd niche — legal tender in form, souvenir in function, with zero practical spending power. This 2016 issue for the Musée Océanographique de Monaco was produced under Oberthur Fiduciaire's standard souvenir banknote program, which uses genuine security printing infrastructure — the same Rennes facility that produces circulating currency for multiple nations — to manufacture notes that will never enter circulation.
The Oceanographic Museum itself was founded by Prince Albert I in 1910, making it one of the older marine science institutions in Europe. Jacques Cousteau served as its director for thirty-one years.
