1⁄26 Shilling - Victoria

Jersey's fractional copper coinage was introduced following the 1834 currency reform that attempted to rationalize the island's chaotic monetary situation, where French sous, English pennies, and local tokens had circulated interchangeably for decades. The 1/26 shilling denomination — peculiar to Jersey alone — derived from the island's practice of reckoning 13 sous to the shilling, with the coin representing half a sou in English terms.

The series ran through Victoria's early reign with minimal modification. KM#2 pieces from the 1841 issue tend to show sharper definition than later strikes, as the dies had not yet degraded from extended use across the two-decade production run.
