Banco da Beira was a private colonial bank operating in Beira, Mozambique, then under Portuguese administration. Its authority to issue notes was limited in scope and geography, making this 1919 series a genuinely regional instrument — not a metropolitan Portuguese issue dressed up for the colonies, but a locally chartered bank exercising its own concession.
Bradbury Wilkinson printed the series in London, as they did for dozens of colonial and quasi-governmental issuers across the British and Portuguese spheres during this period. The R11A designation distinguishes this from related variants in the same issue, likely by signature combination or minor typographic detail.
