| Obverse description | Central device depicting a stylized bunch of bananas (Musa x paradisiaca, family Musaceae) rendered in low relief, enclosed within a raised inner circle. The surrounding border carries the legend KATANGA in boldly stylized Latin lettering interspersed with triangular decorative motifs, with two small cross symbols flanking the lower portion of the legend. | Reverse description | Dominating the field is a large Katanga Cross (croisette du Katanga), the traditional X-shaped copper ingot currency of the region, rendered in bold relief. To the upper right of the cross, the two-line legend BANQUE NATIONALE identifies the issuing authority. The denomination 1 FR appears to the left of the cross centre, and the date 1961 is inscribed in the lower exergue. The design is unbordered, filling the field to the rim. |
