| Obverse description | Schematized bust of King Harthacnut facing right, rendered in the crude Viking-age hammered style typical of Danish pennings of the early 11th century. The effigy is depicted with a diademed or helmeted head, the facial features reduced to abstract geometric forms. The bust is surrounded by a circular beaded border, with a fragmentary Latin legend occupying the outer field. The design closely follows Anglo-Saxon prototype coinage of the Short Cross type, reflecting Harthacnut's dual rule over England and Denmark. |
