Reverse description The municipal coat of arms of Toa Baja is depicted centrally, enclosed within an ornamental wreath of laurel branches. A mural crown surmounts the shield, which bears the traditional heraldic emblems of the municipality. The founding year "1745" appears to the left of the arms and the serial number "#12" to the right. The municipality name "TOA BAJA" is inscribed along the upper arc, while the civic motto "CIUDAD DE LOS LLANEROS" (City of the Plainsmen) curves along the lower periphery.

Additional information

Toa Baja is one of Puerto Rico's oldest municipalities, founded in 1745, and this peseta belongs to a series issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico commemorating its constituent towns — an unusual exercise in local identity for a territory whose monetary policy is entirely controlled by Washington. The peseta denomination itself carries deliberate historical irony: Spain's base currency unit, defunct in Puerto Rico since the American takeover in 1898, resurrected here over a century later in silver.
