The Falkland Islands 1 Pound series beginning with P#5 was issued under Letters Patent authority, not through any local banking institution — the colonial government itself stood as issuer, a straightforward arrangement for a territory with no commercial bank of its own. De La Rue's engraving quality on this series is notably fine, placing it well above the utilitarian standard of many contemporaneous colonial issues of comparable circulation volume.

These notes saw hard use in a small, isolated community where replacement was slow and damaged notes remained in circulation far longer than metropolitan equivalents. Low original print runs combined with that circulation reality make genuinely unimpaired examples uncommon.
