| 正面描述 | Austrian Maria Theresa Thaler host coin (KM#T1), countermarked with the Arabic legend 'الحجاز' (Hejaz) applied by the Hashemite authorities upon Husayn's accession (AH 1327). The obverse of the host coin presents a right-facing draped and veiled bust of Empress Maria Theresa, encircled by the Latin legend 'M·THERESIA·D·G· R·IMP·HU·BO·REG·' with 'S·F·' flanking the bust. The Hejaz countermark appears prominently in the field, distinguishing this piece as officially sanctioned currency of the Kingdom of Hejaz. |

A central shield on the eagle's breast displays the Habsburg dynastic arms. The surrounding Latin legend reads 'ARCHID·AVST·DUX·BURG·CO·TYR·1780·X', denoting Maria Theresa's titles as Archduchess of Austria, Duchess of Burgundy, and Countess of Tyrol, with the frozen restrike date 1780 and the mintmark X. |

Husayn ibn Ali proclaimed the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule in June 1916, and this coinage followed almost immediately — one of the first acts of a nascent state asserting independence through currency. The Hejaz had no established mint infrastructure, and early strikes of this type were produced under improvised conditions, which accounts for the frequently uneven striking pressure seen across the series. The .833 silver standard matched the contemporary Ottoman Mecidiye, likely a deliberate choice to ease acceptance among a population accustomed to Ottoman coin weights.
