Crimea's ambiguous political status following the March 2014 annexation spawned a cottage industry of "fantasy" issues — coins struck for a jurisdiction that has no independent monetary authority and never will. These pieces circulate among collectors, not economies, produced by private mints exploiting the novelty of a disputed territory's name on a coin flan.
The White-headed duck, Oxyura leucocephala, does winter along the Black Sea coast — so at least the wildlife choice is geographically defensible.
