| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central effigy presents a facing portrait of President Chung Hee Park, depicted from the shoulders upward in civilian dress with a collar and tie, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF KOREA' curves along the upper arc in large Latin capitals, while 'PRESIDENT CHUNG HEE PARK' is inscribed along the lower arc, each legend separated by dash punctuation marks. The portrait is naturalistic in style, capturing the president's likeness with fine detail to facial features. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
This piece was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Korean independence, struck under the direct authorization of President Park Chung-hee, whose government used commemorative gold coinage as both a prestige instrument and a vehicle for foreign currency generation. Park's regime produced several gold issues through the early 1970s, most in extremely limited quantities destined for diplomatic gifts and export rather than domestic circulation.
KM#17 mintages were tightly controlled and never approached mass production figures.
