Pattern coinage for Romania in this period was often produced in multiple metals simultaneously — the same dies struck in nickel, copper, brass, and occasionally aluminum — to allow the Finance Ministry and Carol I himself to make final decisions on both composition and aesthetics before committing to a production run. The 1905 10 Bani patterns were never adopted; Romania continued with its existing coinage rather than introducing a new type that year.
Brass survivors from this trial are genuinely scarce, as pattern runs were small and most examples entered private or institutional collections almost immediately after striking.
