Opmerkingen

La Rioja's 1986 emergency notes are among the more unusual episodes in Argentine provincial fiscal history. Facing chronic delays in federal transfers and a provincial treasury that couldn't meet payroll, La Rioja issued its own quasi-currency — the "bocade" series — under legal authority granted to provinces during the accelerating hyperinflationary spiral that would culminate in the 1989 Austral collapse. These circulated locally as wage substitutes, accepted in provincial transactions but exchangeable at par with federal currency in theory, and at a discount in practice.

Casa de Moneda's involvement gave the notes a degree of official legitimacy uncommon in provincial scrip. Several other Argentine provinces followed with similar instruments between 1985 and 1992.
