Banque Scolaire notes were issued to Quebec schoolchildren as part of a savings education program run through Catholic parish schools in the early twentieth century. Children deposited small amounts of real money and received these scholastic receipts in return — not legal tender, but functional within the school savings system. The program was tied closely to the Church-run caisse movement and the broader effort to build financial habits among francophone working-class families.
The $10 denomination was the highest commonly encountered in the series, representing a meaningful sum for a child saver in 1920.
