| 正面铭文 | BANQUE NATIONALE DU CONGO LEOPOLDVILLE 10 F 1965 GAB (Translation: National Bank of the Congo) |
| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a finely detailed front-facing portrait of a lion, rendered in high sculptural relief, its full mane radiating dramatically to fill the field. The lion gazes directly forward with naturalistic detail in the fur and facial features, conveying strength and dignity as a national symbol. The legend 'JUSTICE' arcs along the lower left rim, 'PAIX' appears at the upper centre, and 'TRAVAIL' descends along the lower right rim, together forming the national motto of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The engraver's monogram 'CvD' (Carlos Van Dionant) is inscribed at the base of the design. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |

The Banque Nationale du Congo was established in 1964 as the newly independent state worked to disentangle its monetary system from Belgian colonial infrastructure. This 10 Francs piece was among the first issues struck under that institution, replacing the earlier coinage of the Banque Centrale du Congo Belge et du Ruanda-Urundi. The aluminium composition reflects chronic foreign exchange shortages that made costlier alloys impractical for a country whose economy had been severely disrupted by the chaos following independence in 1960 and the subsequent Katanga secession crisis.
