One of thousands of Austrian municipal emergency notes — Notgeld — issued during and after the First World War, when coin shortages stripped small communities of any means to make change. Nußdorf an der Traisen, a village in Lower Austria, was among the countless Gemeinden that printed their own fractional scrip rather than wait for the central authorities to solve the problem. The Leitenberger firm in Vienna's third district handled a significant volume of this municipal work.
The two signatories — likely the Bürgermeister and a municipal official — authenticated the issue by hand or facsimile, as was customary.
