10 Rupiah Overprint

This note belongs to a short-lived overprint series issued when Bank Indonesia needed to rapidly remonetize lower denominations amid the economic disorder of the early Sukarno period. Rather than commission a full new printing, existing stock was overprinted at Percetakan Kebayoran — the state printer that handled much of Indonesia's domestic currency work during this period — a cost-saving measure that also reflects how strained government finances were by 1963.

The Pick R04 designation places it in the regional/emergency category, and surviving examples with clean overprint registration are harder to find than the catalog suggests.
