Vanuatu has no fossil record of Smilodon — the saber-toothed predator was endemic to the Americas and never ranged into the Pacific. The Reserve Bank of Vanuatu has issued commemorative coins under licensing arrangements for decades, effectively functioning as a mint-for-hire for international bullion and novelty coin programs with no geographic or historical connection to the island nation.
