| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in dark grey-green and black on a light green guilloche underprint, with the Imperial chrysanthemum seal at the top centre flanked by ornate scrollwork borders. A central intaglio vignette presents a bust portrait of Wake no Kiyomaro in traditional court dress, framed by an oval cartouche with flanking phoenix motifs and a garland of cherry blossoms at the base. The denomination 拾圓 appears in large kanji characters to the left, with the issuer inscription 日本銀行 to the right, two circular red seal impressions at lower left and right, and the printer's inscription along the bottom margin. |
